KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Homeschooling helped a local girl graduate high school and make history at an area college, KMBC's Natalie Moultrie reported.

Charion Vaughn, 15, is the youngest student on campus at Kansas City, Kan., Community College.

"They're shocked, telling me I'm lying. And I have to prove it, then they're pretty much impressed," Vaughn said.

Vaughn is not only the youngest on campus, but because of her high ACT scores, her college is paid for. Vaughn and her parents said that hard work at homeschooling made the difference between being a high school sophomore and a college freshman.

"While I was homeschooled, I didn't like it sometimes that I had to be home all the time. I didn't appreciate it until I graduated. Now, that I've finished early, I'm happy I did it," Vaughn said.

Vaughn's brothers are also being homeschooled. Her dad is a Kansas City, Kan., police officer and her mom started this 10 years ago to give their children more educational challenges. Vaughn said that biggest help is the individual attention.

"When I was really good, she let me accelerate. If I needed help, I was never held back for anything," Vaughn said.

The Vaughns admit homeschooling has not been easy. But they said it was worth it.

"The greatest reward is she's in college. Now, it feels like we really accomplished something," mother Cynthia Vaughn said.

If Vaughn stays on pace, she will graduate college and head to law school at the age of 19.
