KC Teachers Upset About Low Pay

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Local school teachers say they are overworked and underpaid.The teacher's union held a rally outside district headquarters at 12th and McGee streets Wednesday evening. The teachers are upset that the district hasn't come up with a contract.KMBC's Micheal Mahoney reported that the sticking point in contract negotiations is over money. Union members say the teachers are the lowest paid among 17 surrounding school districts.
"It is harder to recruit -- teachers want to be paid what they're worth," said Hersticene Marshall, with the teacher's union.The starting salary for teachers in the Kansas City, Mo., School District is just under $30,000.Union and district leaders will meet again early next month.
