KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The famed Clydesdales may be more pampered than the cast of 'Desperate Housewives," KMBC's Maria Antonia reported. The horses have their own health, maintenance and retirement plan, and they are in Kansas City this weekend as part of the races at the Kansas Speedway."They're kind of like the Rolls Royce of the draft-horse world," said Lloyd Ferguson, who is the lead driver and supervisor.
The horses are bathed in biodegradable, all-natural, horse friendly cleanser that won't hurt their eyes. Every month they get vaccinations and worming, plus physicals twice a year."We even have a chiropractor that we can have check on them occasionally," Ferguson said. The horses also have a retirement plan. Sometimes they're used to pose for pictures, and sometimes they go to live with other big names."Some do go to retirement homes with celebrities. Years ago, Muhammad Ali got one. The Earnhardts have got a Clydesdale," Ferguson said. The Clydesdales can be seen at Village West at 5 p.m. on Friday, at the Woodlands Racetrack at 2 p.m. on Saturday and at the Kansas Speedway on Sunday at about 11:30 a.m.
