KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Four women who formed friendships while battling breast cancer are detailing their journeys in a book called "Nordie's at Noon."

KMBC's Kelly Eckerman reported that all the women were diagnosed with the disease at age 30 or younger.

"Once a month we started meeting at Nordstrom's Cafe as our own support group," coauthor Kim Carlos said. "I was trying to figure out how do I raise my son; Jennifer was 22 weeks pregnant, and Patti was trying to date, and how do you date; and Jana was walking down the aisle in a wig and prosthesis."

"Obviously, it's our breast cancer journey. It's also a story of friendship and a story of living life to its fullest and taking each day as the gift that it is," coauthor Jennifer Johnson said.

Johnson underwent chemotherapy and surgery while pregnant, but she gave birth to a healthy baby boy and went on to have a healthy baby girl as well.

Carlos has her hair back and has started a new business.

Coauthor Jana Peters took her dream job in San Francisco, where she now lives with her husband. She is still battling her cancer.

Patti Balwanz lost her battle with cancer before the book made it to print, but it was her dying wish that her story be shared.

"I think as young women finding each other and finding our stories and being able to laugh and cry and educate others at the same time has been a gift," Carlos said.
