Man Talking On Cell Phone Struck By Lightning
Victim Says It Was 'Orange, Like Fire'
A DeSoto man said he was amazed at the intensity of a lightning strike that knocked him out Tuesday, KMBC 9 News' Maria Antonia reported.
According to a statistics book, the odds of getting struck by lightning are 606,944 to 1, but it happened to Rob Keehn.
"I saw lightning strike a tree," Keehn (pictured, left) said.
Keehn was talking on a cell phone on his porch when the lightning struck.
"It's orange, like fire. It's incredible," he said. What Keehn saw and felt was 100 million volts of electricity, Antonia reported. He said it felt like a punch in the chest.
"At one point, he did stop breathing. (As) soon as we got ready to go into CPR, he started back," Keehn's son, Craig Keehn, said.
"I'm just the unfortunate one that got it. Everyone else that helped me are the important ones," Keehn said.
Keehn spent a night in the hospital and was released Wednesday.
Doctors told Keehn that the shock affected his nerve endings, so he frequently twitches, Antonia reported. The twitching should go away, doctors said.
