KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs added another Ram to their roster Monday by trading a sixth-round pick for backup quarterback Joe Germaine.
To make room for Germaine (pictured, left), the Chiefs waived veteran Bubby Brister, who threw three interceptions and squandered a 17-0 third-quarter lead Friday night as the Rams rallied for a 21-17 exhibition victory.
Germaine wasn't much better in that game. He was yanked from the contest after missing on his first four passes and didn't return.
Coach Mike Martz was so frustrated with his performance, he let it be known before halftime that Germaine had lost his job as the backup to Kurt Warner.
In Kansas City, Germaine is expected to start as the third-string quarterback behind Trent Green and Todd Collins. The Chiefs open the season Sunday against the visiting Oakland Raiders.
The Rams picked up quarterback Jamie Martin, who was released by Jacksonville on Sunday.
"This is the best thing for everyone," Martz told ESPN.com. "It helps the Chiefs with their backup situation. It helps (Germaine), because he gets a fresh start, and he definitely is a talented guy. And it shores up our situation with a guy we know very well."
