Karen Kornacki

Karen Kornacki came to Kansas City back in August of 1983. She now anchors the Saturday sportscasts at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m.

Karen covers all sports, "But I have always enjoyed the people stories, talking to athletes and their families, finding the unusual sidebars."

She grew up in a small city between Buffalo and Niagara Falls, New York and went to college at the University of Denver. Her first job was in Columbus, Ohio in 1979.

Karen's life has been surrounded by sports. Her Dad was a high school football coach, but she never played sports. (There weren't any to play in her hometown back then!). Her husband is a former professional baseball player. He played for the Yankees and finished his career in the Houston organization.

Karen has won awards through her career. The one that stands out to her is the Kansas City Image Award back in 1995. That award is in recognition of work in the community as well as on the job. She also won an Emmy in 2003 for a special show on the Royals.

She has been involved with various charities throughout her years here in Kansas City. "My real call seems to be speaking to women's groups or Christian gatherings. I like to encourage and motivate people."

As for hobbies, being with her husband is Karen's favorite thing on the planet. She has a book underway dedicated to teaching women the game of baseball.
