KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- As you're shopping for groceries, you can be an angel for a U.S. soldier serving overseas.KMBC 9's Natalie Moultrie was at the HyVee grocery store in Lenexa, and she found angels strolling the aisles.
The angels were also greeting customers and looking for new recruits. If you'd like to become a soldier's angel, you can make a donation, adopt a soldier, or send a care package. The angels are meeting a need by filling empty food boxes. It's the work of soldiers' angels and their holiday donation drive.Volunteers like Sandy Lowery -- who has a son in Iraq -- are trying to make sure soldiers overseas aren't forgotten over the holidays. They want other angels to send them care packages."If he or the other soldiers get something positive they're getting from home, so they know we care and are thinking about them," said Lowery.Lowery knows firsthand -- the soldiers don't ask for much. Simple items like candy bars, oatmeal and gum are more than adequate."Things like this remind them of home; hot chocolate, candy -- things that say home to them are so important, reminds them people care," said Lowery. And people that show they care can be any age -- angels come in all sizes. To visit the Soldiers' Angels Web site, click here.
