KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Thousands of people lined downtown streets to cheer on the 34th Annual St. Patrick's Day parade on Saturday.Despite cloudy skies and temperatures in the 40s, crowds were 10 deep in some places, KMBC's Bryan Busby reported. Police have not yet released the official estimate of how many were in the crowd. The parade theme this year was "Celebrating St. Patrick in Kansas City."
Floats and character balloons depicting St. Patrick highlighted the parade. Marching bands showed off their steps.Besides local celebrities, Michael Moloney from ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" also participated in the parade. The ABC crew is in Kansas City building a 5,000-square-foot home for Jesus and Michelle Jacobo. The show selected the Jacobos because they have four children of their own, and the couple is also caring for five nieces and nephews after Michelle's sister lost custody of her five children. The couple said they took the children in because they didn't want them getting lost in the foster care system. Michelle's father, Grandpa Ray, also lives in the house.
All 12 people lived in a 912-square-foot home in the Northland. That home was razed Tuesday afternoon. The Jacobo family vacationed in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., during construction. They will return home on March 18 for the house's big unveiling.More Information:
