Coroner: Mo. Teen Died Playing 'Choking Game'

Family Wants Other Parents To Be On Alert

UPDATED: 9:43 pm CDT April 26, 2007

A Missouri teenager apparently died playing the "choking game," and now his parents are speaking out to prevent it from happening to other children.

A corner in Campbell said it's likely Adam Hughey Jr., 16, was playing the game when he died. His death was ruled accidental.

The object of the game is to cut off oxygen to the brain to induce a light-headed feeling.

Adam's father found him with a cord tied around his neck.

"It was awful. I went in there -- my son was dead. I looked into his eyes; they were glassy. They were fixed," father Adam Hughey Sr. said.

Adam's relatives are asking that other parents look out for warning signs and talk to their children about the dangers of the game.

Adam will be buried on Saturday.
