A woman accused of stealing money from the Bluejacket-Flint Elementary School PTA has turned herself in to authorities a day after an arrest warrant was issued.

KMBC reported that Julie Ann Carr, 40, had already pleaded guilty to stealing from the PTA. Carr was the fundraising chairwoman. According to court documents, Carr admitted taking $38,000.

"The money was raised by selling cookie dough, wrapping paper, miscellaneous items we do through our fundraising company," PTA president Tanda Castle said.

Carr later paid back $17,000.

When she appeared in court Wednesday for sentencing, Carr was supposed to pay over $21,000 in restitution as part of a plea agreement.

According to authorities, Carr told the court she lost her purse. KMBC's Bev Chapman reported that the judge let Carr return to the store where she left it. Then Carr called her lawyer to say she was stuck in traffic.

When Carr did not return to court, a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Carr will return to court Friday at 11 a.m. for sentencing. In addition to a cashier's check, she is supposed to bring in a letter of apology.
