LENEXA, Kan. -- The civil war in the Sudan has scattered refugees around the globe.KMBC's Martin Augustine reported that many of them landed in Kansas City, which is home to a sizeable Sudanese community. Now that community is being asked to help the very group of people in the Sudan, who, for decades, terrorized them."Somebody asks, 'You forgive me?' It is for you now to show him that you have forgiven him," the Rev. Peter Adum said.
"Going back to help these people is very important," said Franics Bok, who escaped slavery in Sudan.Bok was abducted and forced into slavery. Adum was split from his mother for 20 years. Now Muslims of the Darfur region are themselves a target of what many call genocide by the Sudanese government. Augustine reported it is the same government that for years used to attack Christians such as Bok and Adum.Millions of these Muslims are crammed into desert refugee camps, and word is getting out that they are asking for forgiveness from those they once oppressed."It's painful to me to forgive the person who's done me bad and turn that to the good. But that's how God wants us," Bok said.Bok and many others are working for Sudan Sunrise. Augustine reported that photographs record their journeys to the camps to facilitate forgiveness. The Darfurian Muslims need people to teach their children. Adum said that request should be granted unconditionally."If your brother is crying for what he has done in the past, what do you need more?" Adum said. "This is the person who did not embrace me in the past. Now he's embracing me. I think that is wonderful.""Now is the time for us to show them that we care about each other. Sudan belongs to all of us," Bok said.On The Internet:
