KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A KMBC sports reporter was hit in the face with a plastic pellet fired by a Royals player on Friday afternoon. The team said outfielder Emil Brown shot the plastic pellet gun and didn't intend to hit Karen Kornacki. KMBC Assistant News Director Gerry Roberts said Kornacki was interviewing shortstop Tony Pena Jr. in the locker room when the pellet hit near her left eye. Kornacki's contact shattered and scratched her eye.
Brown immediately apologized to Kornacki. A Royals' trainer treated her and gave her an ice pack, and then she went to see an eye doctor. She was sent home to rest. Kornacki said she's fine and wants everyone to know the Royals went above and beyond to make sure she was OK. Royals spokesman Toby Cook said the team is investigating. Kornacki has been with KMBC for more than 20 years.
