Women Run Over By Car While Dancing In Street

Women May Have Been Ghost Riding

Two women were run over by a car while they danced in the street at 75th Street and Troost Avenue, police said.

One of the victims was the driver of the car.

Investigators said the woman driving the car got out along with a passenger and started dancing. Officers said the car was not in park and started to roll. The car hit the women.

A passenger in the back seat jumped into the driver's seat and stopped the car.

An officer on patrol spotted the accident and stopped to help.

Police said the woman driving the car ran off. The passenger was taken to a hospital with head injuries.

Investigators said alcohol was likely involved in the accident.

KMBC's Maria Antonia reported that the women may have been what's called ghost riding, which is where people get out of a moving car and dance alongside it or climb on top of it. Videos of youth ghost riding have been posted on YouTube.

KMBC asked the passenger if the women were ghost riding, and he said, "If that's what you want to call it."

"Oh yeah, that's really stupid. I will be that blunt," Sgt. Jim Fuller said. "It doesn't show much common sense whatsoever. Anytime you're playing with a 2,000- to 4,000-pound vehicle you can get hurt. Bad things happen when you're messing with a moving vehicle."
