Deputy: Remains In River Are Summer Shipp's
Skull, Bones Of Missing Woman Found In Little Blue River

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that they have identified the human remains found over the weekend in Trace Park as Summer Shipp.Shipp has been missing since December 2004 when she was doing door-to-door surveys in Independence.Fishermen found the human skull and remains Saturday in the Little Blue River near Highways 78 and 7. Some clothing was also found wrapped in fishing line.
Deputy Ronda Montgomery said the Jackson County medical examiner's office used dental records to identify the remains.Montgomery said crews will go back to the scene to look for more evidence.Shipp's daughter and friends have been active in distributing pictures and fliers to spread the word about her disappearance. They released a statement on the Web site FriendsofSummer.com: "There are no words to express the feelings and emotions the Shipp family is experiencing after the recent news of the positively identified remains of our wonderful Summer. The family needs some time to absorb this."
