KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police investigated odd trash items left in a Brookside neighborhood, but it turns out they were part of an art project.
KMBC's Martin Augustine reported that police were called to 63rd Street and Wornall Road Thursday afternoon after a woman noticed a trash bag on her front steps. When she went to pick up it, she said a substance on the bag burned her hands, and the bag started playing music.
Augustine reported that the bag was painted white and appeared to have been placed there on purpose. The woman went next door to talk to a house-painting crew and asked them if it belonged to them.
"So she asked if it was ours from the painting. I did not recognize the bag. We went over and started going through it, and there's something wet on it and it made our arms start burning and itching. About that time, we decided to call hazmat and see what was going on," said Mitch Hansen.
Another neighbor a few houses down reported finding an old tire on his front porch. The tire had apparently been painted white and it had a cassette deck and speaker wired to it.
Three more trash items were found at 47th and Terrance and 46th and Fairmont.
Bomb Squad and hazmat teams investigated the findings. Late Thursday evening, police said that they received a call from the person responsible. The items were all apparently part of an art project. No charges will be filed.
