An Independence man was sentenced Friday for robbing the Winterset State Bank in Harrisonville, Mo. in July 2002.

Bank robbery suspectGeorge L. Curtis (pictured, left), 75, received five years and three months in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Curtis to pay full restitution to Winterset State Bank and Trailside RV Center.

Prosecutors said that Curtis used a cashier's check taken in the robbery to buy a recreational vehicle, which he drove to South Dakota. Police caught up with Curtis and arrested him.
