KANSAS CITY, Kan. --
A 12-year-old Kansas City, Kan., boy died late Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a van while riding his bicycle earlier in the week.
Now neighbors are voicing concerns about speeding cars and keeping this tragedy from happening again, KMBC's Lara Moritz reported.
The crash happened Monday evening near 47th Street and Oak Grove Road. One neighbor recalled hearing the sound of the crash.
"I seen (sic) two kids on bicycles go by the window, heading down 47th Street. Just a short time later I heard a screeching sound," said resident Izola Pugh.
Pugh said the traffic on 47th Street is bad. Moritz reported that the traffic on 47th Street sometimes travels well over the speed limit.
Matt Cross, a parent in the neighborhood, agrees. After Cross heard the sound of screeching tires Monday, he talked with his children about the dangers the traffic poses.
"I have two sons. I went into their bedroom and definitely had a talk with them," Cross said.
Residents may petition the city to add more stop signs or lower the speed limit on 47th Street, Moritz reported.
Police did not say whether the driver was speeding when the boy was struck, or whether any charges will be filed in the case.
