KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Friends of a police chase accident victim brought formal complaints about her death to the Kansas City Police Board Tuesday.
Bicyclist Toni Sena (pictured, left) , was hit and killed in July by an alleged drunken driver.
The driver was trying to escape police during a high-speed chase, KMBC reported.
Sena's friends asked the police board to make the chase policy more strict and to better train officers for high-speed pursuits.
The board passed a resolution to have meetings with Sena's friends and discuss the pursuit policy in the near future.
"The policy should meet the same strict standards as that of an officer's firearm. They're not allowed to shoot into a crowd, even if a felon is running away. Yet, for some reason, it's OK to drive a 6,000 pound missile into a crowd and that doesn't seem right," friend John Anderson said.
The Police Department's pursuit policy was revised last October to make it more strict.
Currently, pursuit policy states that an officer is given discretion to begin a high-speed pursuit if there is reasonable suspicion that the suspect committed a violent felony.
