Interactive, Educational Toys Hot This Christmas

Toys that are interactive and educational are the hot toys that local shoppers are snatching up for kids this year, KMBC's Natalie Moultrie reported.

"I want anything Winnie The Pooh," 8-year-old Alyessa Gatwood said.

"They want the Scene It game. I'm looking for that," shopper Susan Kreamer said.

Moultrie said that anything Elmo is always a hit at Christmas, too.

The people who work at Toys "R" Us said interactive and educational toys are at the top of the lists this year.

"I'm looking for the Fisher-Price interactive TV/DVD system," shopper Bill Toler said.

The Fisher-Price Power Touch Learning System for preschoolers is one of the top choices this year.

"It teaches you the alphabet, numbers ... you can read a story through," Toys "R" Us' Kim Punjiba said.

Moultrie said that a toy simply powered by imagination is also flying off the shelves. The Magnetix building set is for girls and boys ages 6 to 9.

Pac Man is making a comeback with an inexpensive gaming system. Plug it into the television and you have five built-in games.

"Adults, especially people used to older games are looking for older games," Punjiba said.

But for more high-tech, the new Nintendo DS Dual Screen is the latest way to play hand-held games.

"So not only can you play the game with a button, you can use the thumb stylus or pen stylus," Punjiba said.

Toys "R" Us said that parents cannot go wrong with old favorites such as Hot Wheels, Bratz dolls, and superheroes.

Based on weekend sales, retailers say DVDs, videogames, flat-screen TVs, digital cameras and MP3 players are big sellers for the adults.
