KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The U.S. Postal Service is asking residents for help in tracking down a man who robbed a mail carrier Tuesday afternoon near 61st Street and Rowland.
KMBC's Dan Weinbaum said the mailman was back on his route Wednesday after being robbed and shot at. He and other mail carriers handed out fliers with the mail that detailed information about the robbery. A $25,000 reward is being offered in the case.
Mail carriers like Alvin Blount put a flier in every mailbox."Hopefully, we're not a target," Blount said.Police said the robber went up to the mail carrier Tuesday and demanded his wallet and keys to the mail truck. The mailman handed everything over and as the robber ran away, the man turned and fired a shot. The mailman was not hurt."From time to time, things might occur like that, so we have to be on the lookout for it," Blount said. The talk around the post office and on the street is safety."Basically, be careful. Be aware of your surroundings, and if approached, don't fight the situation. Give up. It's not worth your life," Blount said. The robber is described as a black man in his early 20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall to 6 feet tall. He was wearing a ski mask and blue and white tennis shoes.
