A crossover accident shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 just south of Wellsville for several hours Wednesday morning.

The accident happened at about 7:30 a.m when a car and pickup truck collided. The Kansas Highway Patrol said the driver of a Lincoln was northbound and for some reason went into the median and then into the southbound lanes, striking the pickup.

KMBC's Johnny Rowlands reported that one person in the pickup died. She was identified as Saundra L. Krueger, 55, of Wellsville.

Two men in the Lincoln were taken to hospitals.

The accident is under investigation.
