SHAWNEE, Kan. -- A tip from neighbors led to the arrest of three suspected prostitutes, KMBC's Emily Aylward reported Thursday.
Residents at the Nieman Square Apartments Homes called police after they noticed a lot of men coming and going out of one unit at 11115 W. 64th Terrace.
Police said they matched the apartment location to a newspaper advertisement that promised traditional and Oriental massage.Three women, aged 36, 39 and 49, were arrested in a police sting and charged with soliciting sex. An interpreter helped explain the charges to the women, who said they just moved to the area from California. One apartment resident told KMBC he was surprised to hear about the sting."You hear about that thing in the city, not in Shawnee," the resident said.Police thanked the community for alerting them."It's the citizens handing in these tips -- without them, we wouldn't have the tips to get these people arrested and out of town," said Phillip Burger, a Shawnee officer who was part of the police sting.
