KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Erin and Shawn Roberts had a dream to quit their well-paying corporate jobs and travel around the world. So they did.
"It's just mutual to both of them. I think it meant more than just seeing the sights people see when they go to a country," said Peggy Hughes, mother of Erin Roberts. The couple recently married and decided to take a one-year global honeymoon. Both had to save up to be able to afford the costs, KMBC's Lara Moritz reported.
"Erin would take peanut butter sandwiches to work every day in order to save what she felt she needed to save for this trip," Hughes said.Moritz said that $115 a day is what Erin and her husband needed to immerse themselves in different cultures around the globe."They both gave up excellent careers to do this, but I think they felt if they could travel around the world, they could start a new career," Hughes said. While most young, married couples struggle to combine their possessions, Erin and Shawn didn't -- one backpack each was it."They each got one luxury item by the way. His was his camera and hers was her face cream," Hughes said. The newlyweds invited the Hughes to meet them along the way."They gave us tickets to go to Greece. We left in October and saw them in Greece and then again in New Zealand," Hughes said.On the Internet:
