KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Investigators are learning more about one of the city's largest stolen property rings.Tens of thousands of dollars' worth of appliances, construction equipment and other goods were ripped out of homes under renovation. The loot was intended to be resold out of a well-organized basement, police said."We got doors, windows, air conditioners, furnaces, some yard equipment -- basically, anything to remodel a home," said Detective Tim Mountz.
Officials said the goods were stolen in mass quantity from all around the metro area. The goods were all stacked and organized like a hardware store, police said."We've never had anything on this scale," Mountz said. "The scope of this, we don't know yet."Bobby Veal is accused of using his home and other property he owns to amass stolen equipment and sell it. Prosecutors expect more charges to be filed in the case."If you've purchased some property -- and a reasonable person would believe it's stolen -- there's every reason to expect the police will be coming after you as well," Mountz said.Investigators have catalogued all the items found and hope to return it to its original owners. If you think any of the material is yours, you'll need to have your police report and any paperwork identifying the items. To set up an appointment with detectives, call (816) 234-5515.
