CEDAR GROVE, Wis. -- A Wisconsin man and his daughter died Friday in an icy pond after the girl fell through the thin ice while ice-skating, authorities said.Sheboygan County Sheriff Michael Helmke told CNN that the man and two daughters had been skating on the pond when one of the girls fell through the ice. The man attempted a rescue, while the other girl ran to a nearby home to call 911, the sheriff said.
WISN-TV in Milwaukee reported that rescuers were using axes and chain saws to try to break through the ice. The pond is about 8 feet feet deep.Helmke told CNN the girl was either 9 or 10 years old.Television footage showed emergency workers wading through the icy water and a raft on the pond.The National Weather Service says it's in the low 20s and overcast with chances of snowfall in the area.In Waldo, Wis., an 11-year-old on an ATV also went through the ice. He was taken to an area hospital by Flight For Life.
