LENEXA, Kan. -- A man stabbed several times in his Lenexa home Friday afternoon has died from his injuries.

Nigel Marcotte, 42, died early Monday morning at a hospital.

Police were called to Marcotte's home near 109th Street and Rene at about 1:30 p.m. Friday. Investigators said it appeared that there had been an extensive struggle in the living room of the home.

"Furniture was knocked over and there was blood everywhere," Detective Derrick Pierce told KMBC's Donna Pitman.

Marcotte was able to call his wife after the attack.

"She could tell he was in trouble, out of breath ... She called 911 and stayed on the phone with dispatchers," Pierce said.

Nothing was taken from the house.

Neighbors said Marcotte was a good friend and Pierce said he was "one of the good guys."

Police said Marcotte had no known enemies. However, as a manager of an Applebee's restaurant in Leavenworth, he recently fired some employees for performance reasons, but it did not appear Marcotte was on bad terms with the workers, KMBC reported.
