A metro-area boy is being treated for bacterial meningitis.

KMBC's Marcus Moore reported Friday that the boy is a fourth-grader at St. Elizabeth School in Kansas City.

A relative said the boy is in a coma at Children's Mercy Hospital.

Health officials don't know how the boy got the virus, but the case appears to be isolated and there is no threat to other children.

A student told KMBC that his classmates were writing get-well cards to the boy.
