Animal Shelter Offers Gas Card With Adoptions

A local animal shelter has devised an unusual way to spur pet adoptions, KMBC's Jere Gish reported Friday.

Until the end of May, anyone who adopts an animal at Wayside Waifs will get a $25 gift card from QuikTrip.

"We hope to pay for the trip out to our shelter and back. We know that gas prices are on everyone's mind, and we hope to make the trip a little easier," said Jenny Brown, with Wayside Waifs.

Gish reported that there are about 250 animals waiting to be adopted at Wayside, and summer is always a busy time of year.

"We're getting ready for puppy and kitten season, and when the warm months start, we see a lot of little (kittens)," Brown said.

A donor provided the money for the gas giveaway.

Adoption fees cost about $55 to $200, with the average being about $100.
