KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- If pitching poorly wasn't enough to get Ambiorix Burgos in trouble, now the Royals pitcher has found himself involved in another controversy, and this one has to do with the American flag, KMBC's Bill Pikus reported.Monday night in Oakland, Calif., each Royals player wore U.S. flags on their hats in honor of Memorial Day. However, alert viewers noticed that the flag on Burgos' hat was upside down. Some questioned whether Burgos, who is from the Dominican Republic, deliberately attached the flag upside down.
Royals representative Aaron Babcock told KMBC that "the flags were placed on the hats by clubhouse attendants. Evidently, one was put on incorrectly, or it fell off and was replaced incorrectly."Babcock said Burgos and the other players have nothing to do with the preparation of equipment. He said the upside-down flag was an honest mistake and no disrespect was meant.
