Boy Expected To Recover

A boy is recovering after being attacked by a pit bull.

Jacob Peck said he loves dogs, but he was surprised when a pit bull jumped a fence and came at him while he was walking home Monday night.

Peck said he fought off the dog and was terrified he was going to be killed. He said he knew to keep the dog away from his neck, but he suffered several bites.

The boy's father took him to a hospital for bandages and stitches. Peck said he's going to be OK.

Officials said the dog was up to date on its shots, so Peck won't have to have any rabies vaccinations.

Police said the dog's owner recognized the safety concerns involved and the dog will be put down.

Peck said despite his wounds, he wishes the dog didn't have to die.
