Off-Duty Nurses Save Woman At Softball Game

A mother collapsed during a softball game and two off-duty nurses rushed to her rescue.

Tuesday, the nurses were awarded certificates of appreciation.

Stephanie Klinksick said her heart stopped while she was watching her daughters play at Little Blue Trace Baseball Park in Raytown.

Nurses Tina Johnson and Brett Stock were in the stands to watch the game. Johnson said they looked at each other, then sprang into action.

"It was kind of chaotic at first. Then it just calmed -- it seemed like for a moment in time, it got really quiet and everyone just was focused on what was going on," Johnson told KMBC's Erin Little.

"Tina and Brett were there and came to my rescue and began doing CPR for 20 to 25 minutes," Klinksick said.

"God just put me in the right place at the right time," said Stock, who works as a nurse at Truman Medical Center West.

Johnson said the certificate of appreciation is nice, but she was just as moved by something Klinksick's daughter said.

"She said, 'Thanks for saving my mom's life,' so I thought that was the coolest moment ever," Johnson said.

Doctors told Klinksick that without help from the nurses, she would not have survived.
